Garrett received his Bachelor, and Master of Science degrees from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. His primary areas of study included stable isotope geochemistry, paleontology, stratigraphy, and sedimentation. Upon graduating in 2015, he received an internship with the BLM and worked at the Moab field office in southeastern Utah as a paleontology and GIS intern. He joined the Arkansas Geological Survey in January of 2016 as a part of the STATEMAP Project. His primary focus at the Survey is geologic field mapping of north-central Arkansas.
